Aluminium-Polyester Film Tapes

Aluminium/Polyester tapes (ALU/PET for short) consist of two or three films glued together. In its most common form, it consists of an aluminium and a polyester film bonded together by an oven-cured polyurethane adhesive. The polyester tape gives the tape mechanical reinforcement and good tensile strength, while the aluminium provides electromagnetic shielding, which makes it indispensable for signal cables, pair cables, high-speed data cables, coaxial cables, etc., and allows easy shielding of each individual pair and the whole assembly.

The thicknesses of the laminated assembly vary depending on the type of cable, the shielding required for data cables etc. or even the cable manufacturing process.

Furthermore, depending on the requirements, the aluminium can be laminated on one side of the polyester, or a second side of aluminium can be added, creating what is known as Triplex or ALU/PET/ALU.

The colour of the laminate is usually neutral, but different colours can be achieved by varying the adhesive to distinguish the different constructions.
