Water-blocking tape

Water-blocking tapes or swelling tapes are made from materials that swell on contact with moisture and prevent water penetration into cables used in critical applications.

Water-blocking tapes have a high water absorption capacity at the point of entry (usually where insulation failure has occurred), blocking the ingress of moisture and ensuring that damage to the cable is minimised. In addition, damage is quickly located and easily repaired.
